The story behind CarShed
At Carshed.co.nz, we take pride in our motto - being New Zealand's marketplace for enthusiast cars and 4WD's. Our platform is created by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts and was created out of a desire for such a platform to exist in our country. We think that it is important that a marketplace exists where enthusiasts can browse and purchase vehicles that they are interested in, something that mainstream marketplaces can no accommodate for. And so we decided to do just that, and the result was Carshed.co.nz!
What does CarShed offer?

Our marketplace is focused around cool and interesting cars for sale in New Zealand. Our user base is made up of people the entire length of New Zealand who share the same interest: cars. Having an enthusiast focus means that buyers or even just fans of cars can browse through vehicle listings that are actually of interest to them. For sellers, this means that they can list their vehicle and get it in front of an audience of buyers who are car people.
Detailed & transparent listings
We believe vehicle listings should include real detail - in-depth descriptions, modifications, known flaws, and extensive imagery. Too many marketplaces allow minimal information, making it hard for buyers to understand what they’re actually purchasing - especially when they can’t view the vehicle in person. Our approach benefits both sides: buyers get clarity and confidence, while sellers can create well-presented listings that increase the likelihood of a sale.

Our community is made up of engaged enthusiasts from all around the country who share a genuine interest in cars. Members actively browse, follow listings and engage with vehicles that interest them, creating a marketplace built around real enthusiasm. Thats right, listing your vehicle is completely free of charge, as is purchasing a vehicle and completing the sale! We provide the opportunity for sellers to utilise our platform to get as many eyes on their vehicle they are selling, without any charges. It is completely free to create an account and list your vehicle on CarShed. The same applies for buyers - simply create an account, find a vehicle you like, get in touch with the seller and negotiate your next purchase!

Complete the submission form with all your vehicle details along with photos. We will rapidly approve your listing and get it live on the site .
Complete the sale
Once your listing is live you can sit back and let the offers roll in! You have the ability to answer questions on your listing and arrange the sale of your vehicle.
No - listing your vehicle on our marketplace is completely free of charge! We do advise that you make sure provide sufficient details when creating your listing along with uploading a good number good quality photos that allow buyers to see your vehicle in details.
Is my car an enthusiast car and am I able to list it?
Carshed.co.nz is primarily based around enthusiast cars and 4WD's. We strive to keep our marketplace this way and maintain our unique enthusiast community across the country. However, it is important to note that we aim to accommodate as many people as possible and provide a platform with active and engaged buyers and sellers with a wide range of vehicles for sale. 'Enthusiast cars' and '4WD's' could be considered relatively vague terms and so if you feel as though your vehicle may not fit the theme of this marketplace, we encourage you to submit a listing anyway and our helpful team will see what we can do for you!
How do I create an account?
Creating your account with us is an easy process and only takes a minute. Simply head over to the page create an account and fill in a few details, and you're all set! After creating your account, you can add vehicles to your watchlist, ask questions on listings, submit vehicles for sale, and much more!
How can I contact a seller?
There are a couple of ways to get in touch with a seller of a vehicle that you are interested in. The first way is to simply ask a question on a listing. The question section is located at the bottom of a vehicle listing page.
If you want to get in touch with a seller directly, you have the option of sending them an email, or getting in touch via mobile (if the seller has chosen to display their phone number).
What information do I need to list my vehicle?
Once you have created your Carshed.co.nz account, you will be able to complete a vehicle submission form to create a live listing on our site. Many listings on traditional marketplaces lack detailed information of vehicles for sale which makes it extremely difficult as a buyer to see exactly what you are buying. We aim is to have high level of detail for vehicles listed for sale on our site, which makes the process easy for buyers anywhere in the country to feel confident about their purchase, particularly if they can't physically view the vehicle due to location. A high level of vehicle information is also very beneficial to sellers as this is an opportunity to showcase a vehicle well, stand out from other listings and increase the chance of sale!
Our vehicle submission form requires you to enter basic details about your vehicle such as make, model, year and mileage etc. Along with these basic details, you can write a description, note down any modifications as well as any known flaws. There is a minimum photo requirement, which is not only important for buyers to see what they are buying, but it is also a chance for sellers to showcase their vehicle well and increase the chance of selling.

How does the buying process work?
We take pride in providing a marketplace with in depth and detailed vehicle listings. As a buyer, you have the opportunity to carefully review the information provided so that you can feel confident when making a purchase.
Once you have your sights set on a particular vehicle, we strongly recommend that you view the car in person. This not only means that you can see the car in person carry out further investigations including a test drive, but also gives you a chance to meet the seller and build a rapport with who you are purchasing from. Remember that in a way, you are ultimately buying the seller just as much as the vehicle itself!
Sellers contact details are included on a vehicle page so that you can get in touch with questions, arranging viewings and arranging the purchase details.
Although we provide a marketplace to connect buyers and sellers of enthusiast cars and 4WD's and the rest is up to the relevant parties to organise, our team is always here to help and answer any questions.

Can I list a 'project car'?
While we aim to have our marketplace filled with well-maintained and driveable vehicles, there is no restriction on listing a car that is in a 'project' state. This may include (but not limited to) enthusiast cars and 4WDs that require mechanical work to make them driveable again, or vehicles that are in an incomplete project state for changes/upgrades such as engine or drivetrain swaps.
If you are listing a 'project' vehicle, we do suggest including a very high level of detail including both description and images, so that buyers can properly understand the current state of the vehicle as well as exactly what is needed to make it complete again.
How long does a vehicle listing stay live on the site?
Currently, there is no time limit on how long a listing can stay live on the site. However, we do reach out to buyers after a certain amount of time to check in with them and make sure that their vehicle is still for sale and hasn't sold. This is to ensure that every vehicle a buyer sees on the site is actually for sale and available for them to purchase.
Is my contact information visible to other users?
Carshed.co.nz has has been built with the safety of all users' information in mind. When creating a listing, sellers have the option to include their mobile number for faster communication between buyers that are interested in the vehicle. This number is only visible to other users that have created an account, became a registered user and are are currently logged in. This is optional and sellers do not have to include their mobile number if they so wish.
Emailing is the default method of communication that is standard on every listing. Again, a person needs to have created an account and be logged in to send an email to a seller. They will complete a contact seller form which sends an email from the site straight to the seller. The sellers email address is not visible in this form and is kept safe from the public.
In terms of buyers information that goes to sellers, when a buyer completes a contact seller form their email address will be visible to the seller that they contacted. A buyer also has the option to include their mobile number should they wish to do so, meaning that the buyer can contact them more directly. Again, the mobile number here is optional.
